The “Final Workshop on Stakeholders’ Consultation for the Myanmar Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap and Strategies Development” was held on 6-Sept-2024 at the Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Naypyidaw, organized under the Mekong Lancang Cooperation special fund project (2022). The workshop aimed to facilitate discussions with stakeholders to develop roadmaps and strategies for national science, technology, and innovation in Myanmar, supporting ongoing scientific and technological activities and the long-term socio-economic development of the nation. The Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, delivered the opening speech.
Since science, technology, and innovation are vital driving forces for the socio-economic development of a developing country, the Ministry of Science and Technology and related ministries such as the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry, the Ministry of Electronic Power, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Construction, the experts and representatives from the UMFCCI, MCF and MSMEs associations discussed and finalized the "Draft Roadmap and Strategy for National Science, Technology, and Innovation."
Experts from various ministries and organizations shared insights on the roadmap and strategy draft, focusing on STI development and actions within the ASEAN region, the current state of STI development in Myanmar, ongoing initiatives in agriculture and livestock, human resources development, research and development, energy, electric vehicle advancements, information and communication technology, and environmental conservation. They also addressed opportunities and challenges, the roadmap and strategic objectives for 2025-2030, sectoral focuses, necessary actions, benefits, and anticipated outcomes. The workshop was attended by the Union Minister for Science and Technology, the Deputy Minister Dr. Aung Zeya, permanent secretaries, director generals, rectors, deputy director generals, professors, directors and policy experts from 14 related ministries and representatives from UMFCCI, MCF and MSMEs associations.
